Egg replacements/ substitutes in baking


Baking without eggs can be a challenge. So here are some options to replace eggs if you are vegetarian, vegan or allergic to eggs. (Pic source-swansonvitamins.com,

Replacement for 1 egg:
Egg replacer Quantity Best suited for
Pureed fruits 1/4th cup Breads, cakes & brownies
Banana 1/2 medium banana pureed (approximately 1/4th cup) Breads, cakes & brownies
Applesauce 1/4th cup+1 teaspoon baking powder Cakes & quick breads
silken tofu 1/4 cup Breads, rich moist cakes, cookies & brownies
Flax seed powder 1 tablespoon flaxseed powder+ 3 tablespoons water Cookies, breads, muffins, waffles & pancakes
yoghurt 1/4 th cup Cookies, breads & cakes
butter milk Replace liquid in recipe with same amount of buttermilk Cookies & bread
vinegar 1 tablespoon white vinegar or apple cider vinegar+ 1 teaspoon baking soda Cakes, cupcakes & bread
corn starch 1 tablespoon corn starch+ 2 tablespoon water Cakes & bread
arrowroot powder 2 tablespoon arrowroot powder Cookies, breads & cakes
soy powder 1 tablespoon soy powder+ 2 tablespoon water Cakes, breads & brownies
commercial egg replacement powder follow package instructions For all baked goods especially cookies
