Pav/ Bread rolls

Being brought up in Mumbai pav bhaji and misal pav are one of my favorites. However, it used to be quite intimidating when I used to hear stories about the way pav was made.
I got this pav recipe from a close friend when both of us ventured to make pavs for a large gathering. It turned out really good and we received positive feedback from people.
The next time I prepared pav bhaji I decided to to bake the bread also myself. My mother in law who was visiting us then was impressed. She made sure to carry some home made pav when she was returning back to India!
It is very easy to make and once you start making it yourself you will never want to buy the ones sold at the store.


Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 35- 40 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups plain bread flour or maida
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 7 g or 1/4 oz dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1  teaspoon sugar
  • vegetable oil 1-2 tablepoons
  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
Procedure:
Combine  the yeast and sugar in a bowl of warm water. Keep it aside till the mixture turns frothy.
Now in a large mixing bowl combine all the dry ingredients. Add the yeast mixture and knead the dough by adding the warm water. Add little oil and keep kneading till the dough is soft but not sticky.

 Cover the dough with a tight lid or secure the bowl with a plastic wrap.Set it aside for 2 hours or until the dough has doubled in size.
Punch the dough an spread it on a baking tray evenly. Cut across the dough to make rolls.
Preheat oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the rolls .
 Brush a little milk intermittently to get a beautiful golden color.
Bake the rolls for about 35-40  minutes.

Serve with pav bhaji or misal pav or just plain toasted with some butter.
